Weekend Arts Roundup: Drag Kicklines, A Cappella, and More
Nearly to Thanksgiving, guys! Here are some great events to help you through that final pre-Turkey Day stretch...if you're not rushing off campus to relish Harry Potter with all due nerdiness, that is.
- Up this Friday and Saturday only, Princeton Triangle Club's 120th annual fall show, Family Feudalism, is not to be missed. Billed in their press release as "Triangle's first-ever all-Medieval review," it's a show (we kid you not) entirely about castles, complete with time-honored drag kickline. Do you really need more encouragement? The hardest part by far is getting tickets: they're all sold out at Frist, so stop by McCarter Theatre's box office tomorrow if you want a shot at standing room. Matthews Theater at McCarter Theatre Center, 8pm November 19-20. Tickets $8, student events eligible.
Also up this weekend:
- Don't miss the final few performances of the Department of Theater's Good Person of Setzuan at McCarter's Berlind Theater or This is Our Youth at Theatre Intime, both of which were featured in last week's roundup. Tickets $8, 8pm shows Friday and Saturday.
- Looking for some sweet, soothing a cappella? There's an arch sing at Blair Arch at 10pm this Friday night, featuring the Wildcats, Roaring 20, Tigressions, Tigertones, Katzenjammers, Nassoons, Tigerlilies, and the Footnotes.
- Up this weekend at the Garden Theatre, we've got summer's overlooked gem Scott Pilgrim vs. the World. Sure, the premise might be weird--dweebish indie guy fights his awesome girlfriend's seven evil exes, video-game-style--but Michael Cera and Jason Schwartzman have an epic light-saber fight. Doesn't get any better than that! 11:30pm Friday and Saturday at the Garden Theater on Nassau Street. Free, with free popcorn and soda.
- If you're looking for some classy free classical music, look no further than Rocky Common Room: the Sinfonia Orchestra will be doing a free concert of Haydn's Symphony No. 85 and Schubert's Symphony No. 5 at 8pm Friday night in Rocky.
- If classical voice is more your thing, check out the Chamber Choir's Sunday concert in Richardson Auditorium. A smaller ensemble made up of select students from the University Glee Club, the Chamber Choir always puts on an impressive show. Tickets $8 in Frist or at the door, student events eligible. 8pm Sunday.
