Candidate’s Period

First-years, sophomores, and juniors are invited to apply to the University Press Club in the fall semester of each academic year.

The application process will be comprised of two stages, and will allow applicants to explore the fundamentals of news writing, including features, profiles, speech stories, pitches and more! Applicants will be mentored by current UPC members - professional journalists - allowing applicants to create strong bonds within the club.

Regardless of the outcome, applicants find that undergoing the process in and of itself is a rewarding experience that gives them greater insight into the news world.

1. Get to know us!

Each applicant will work closely with a current member throughout the entire process; don’t hesitate to reach out with questions if you have any. We also have casual conversations with each candidate during the application process so we can learn more about you and your interests, and so you can learn more about us.

2. Let us know you’re interested

Attend one of our open houses or contact us at princetonuniversitypressclub@gmail.com to let us know you’re interested in applying.

3. Apply

  1. Fill out a form describing your past journalism experience and submit a piece of your best work!

  2. If you have extensive professional journalism experience, we will invite you to an interview and communicate our decision as soon as possible.

  3. It is also possible we would like to get to know you better before an interview! Meet with your assigned UPC mentor to discuss your writing experience and submit a second piece of work.

  4. If you are a novice, don’t worry! We will guide you through the process and help you develop the skills necessary to strengthen your application.
