IN PRINT: Clementi Suicide Brings Homophobia at Princeton to the Forefront

In the six weeks since Rutgers freshman Tyler Clementi jumped off the George Washington Bridge as a response to homophobic harassment, colleges nationwide have grappled with how to prevent similar tragedies from happening on their campuses.  Could something like this happen here in the Orange Bubble, just a mere thirty miles from Rutgers?  Despite our ranking among Newsweek's Top Ten gay-friendly American colleges, LGBT Center Director Debra Bazarsky thinks that it definitely could:

I think attacking Rutgers is missing the point because homophobia happens everywhere.  People have so many resources here, but sometimes that’s not enough if a student feels without hope.  I’d like to believe that something like this wouldn’t happen here, but could it? Absolutely.
