UPDATED: University Accidentally Leaks Developing Coronavirus Plans
BREAKING–The University accidentally announced around 11:30 p.m. on Sunday that undergraduate and graduate lectures will move to an online format starting after spring break until April 5th at the earliest. The announcement was removed from the University website shortly after. "We have been developing a new website to keep the University community informed on policies, guidance, and best practices to ensure everyone’s health and safety during this evolving situation." said University spokesperson Ben Chang after the announcement was redacted. "Policy information under development was inadvertently made viewable to the public. We will share any and all new policies and guidance as soon as they are finalized."The original campus update stated: “Undergraduate and graduate students should consider going to their permanent residence (not on campus) or to stay off campus with family or friends for spring break and until at least April 5th.” There have been no confirmed cases of COVID-19 at the University, the Chang said late night Sunday. Likewise, nobody on campus has met the criteria for being tested.“No one has been tested for COVID-19 at McCosh. We are not aware of any member of the University community who has met the criteria for testing,” wrote University spokesperson Ben Chang in an email Sunday night. “We are committed to keeping the University community informed about important health information. If there is a case of COVID-19 on campus, we will share that information with the community.”The University community fell into chaos this weekend amid growing concerns about the COVID-19 virus and fears about a possible outbreak at the University.“Coronavirus is already here ppl. The PHAs all know about it and there are cases in Bloomberg and Scully apparently,” read a submission from Sunday night onTiger Confessions+++, a popular Facebook group where students can share anonymous confessions about their Princeton experiences. “So yeah, Princeton doesnt want you to know cause of fear shit.” In addition to unsubstantiated rumors of confirmed patients in Bloomberg and Scully Halls, another anonymous confession claimed to have seen a student getting tested at McCosh University Health Center in the last week.Several students have responded to the submissions on Tiger Confessions, denying the rumors about patients in Bloomberg and Scully Hall. Scott Overbey ‘21, a RCA in Butler College, clarified in the Facebook comments that the alleged incident in Bloomberg Hall was “non coronavirus related,” as confirmed by the Director of Student Life at Butler College, Joe Rolón. Kayla Dobies ‘20 and Albert Jiang ‘21, Peer Health Advisors at Butler College, also confirmed to the University Press Club that there have been no coronavirus-related incidents at Butler College. There have been 21 confessions about the COVID-19 outbreak since the beginning of February, thirteen of which have been published in the last week. The Tiger Confessions moderator, called Tyga Er, has not been filtering any submissions related to the coronavirus on the platform with over 3000 members. They have since taken down the confession quoted above at the request of a PHA. Rumors also seem to have been spreading through various dance groups and Greek life organizations. In the meantime, the University is recommending that students rely on reputable sources for information concerning the outbreak, including the University’s coronavirus website and the New Jersey Department of Health. Update: Tyga Er responded to a request for comment on their moderation of the platform concerning COVID-19 at 12:31 a.m. Monday night. They have since taken down the confession about the rumored cases in Bloomberg and Scully Hall. Update: An earlier version of this post stated that all classes were going to be moved to an online format after spring break.
