Big Numbers for Colonial?
Things are looking up at Colonial Club. Despite last year's low turnout -- only 13 sophomores signed in first-round -- the officers have high hopes for the class of 2013. Last Tuesday, the club organized a dinner for prospective sophomores, and they had the opposite problem: there were just too many! Anyone who RSVP'd late received the following email from Colonial's sophomore representative, Jack Gang '12:
Hi,Thanks for your interest in tonight's sophomore dinner. Unfortunately, due to overwhelming demand, Colonial has reached its cap for the number of sophomores who can attend.Fortunately, there are plenty of other chances to meet our members. We will be hosting more sophomore dinners after fall break, and you will be given priority RSVP for these upcoming events. Please stay tuned for emails about these opportunities. But if you can't wait that long, I have news for you! Did you know that any sophomore can eat at Colonial once per week? Just let any member or officer (like me!) know when you want to come and we'll guest you in. I encourage you to come any time later this week so we can keep in touch.
So they filled up fast. And a free meal every week?! That's a pretty aggressive recruiting strategy, which seems to be working. President David Hou encourages people to take advantage of the free meal, adding that he is "very happy that the class of 2013 has shown such interest" and "optimistic about the upcoming sign-in season.""Thanks to our great members and many new and exciting changes around the club, our events this year have been stronger than those in the past, which could explain the turnout at our first sophomore dinner," he said. Only time will tell, but this year could mark a return to form: Colonial reached its cap in both 2008 and 2009 before last year's low numbers, as the Prince reported last February.
