Legends of the Hidden Library - 2 A.M. in Firestone?

Who says I close at 11:45?I bet you thought we were going to make it all the way to October without a library-related blog post, didn't you! Psshaw! You're down in the atrium of Firestone, the sonorous melodies of "Who's Next" blasting in your headphones as you crank your way through some sweet POL 210 reading. All of a sudden BRRRRINGGGGG! the alarm sounds. Work unfinished, "Won't Get Fooled Again" only halfway done, you sigh and collect your things, ready to trudge off into the cold, unforgiving New Jersey night. If only there was some way, you inwardly lament, that I could stay in Firestone after 11:45!What if I told you there's a place in Firestone you can stay until 2 a.m.? Is that something you might be interested in?More after the jump!Where is this magical place, you ask? Where is this Room of Late-Night Requirement? Here's the best part: it was right under your nose the whole time.Remember the "Reserve/Periodicals Reading Room," right there on the A Floor? You walked right past its humble carpeting, low ceilings, and harsh florescent lighting for the glamour and glitz of the lower levels. But the Reading Room is the working-man's library, the unsung hero of Firestone. Like a Vegas casino, the room gives studiers no sense of time - you can tell if it's day or night, but only if you really try.And best of all, when the alarm sounds for the rest of the library, those wise to the secrets of the room just stay put and jack the volume on their laptops to 11 to drown out the annoying ringing noise (it goes away after a minute or two). You can stay as late as two in the morning, and if you have to leave to grab a book (or latte, since Starbucks is right across the street and open until at least 12:30) you can usually convince the very nice guard to leave the door propped open.Yup, the Legends of the Hidden Library are true - you really can have your cake (studying in Firestone) and eat it, too (studying until 2 a.m.) You know, if you're a supernerd, like me.
