Aw come on, or, how I learned to stop believing in the USG

Cute boys! Tattoos! Girly drinks! The Prince reported today that Gym Class Heroes will grace the Quadrangle Club with their awkward indie-hip hop presence to celebrate Lawnparties this Sunday.Damn it.While a bunch of Princetonians will inevitably be dancing to that kinda goofy song about cookies that's actually about copulating, USG has once again dropped the proverbial Lawnparties ball. So much for those optimistic rumors about T-Pain coming. What is this, 2005?Yeah, that's right, Gym Class Heroes' biggest hit ("Cupid's Chokehold") came out in February of 2005. So I guess it's okay if we're less than five years late on an act. Apparently the USG decided to go wild with their extra $10,000 budget this year and throw a huge high school throwback party.In-depth ranting and some justification after the jump. While they're arguably a step up from hosting New Found Glory last year at Spring Lawnparties, the USG still seems to be stuck four years behind everyone else. Which, I guess if you didn't know of any "Spring Fling" line-ups at other institutions of higher learning, would be just dandy. Check these out (and feel free to express any anger):Yale: The Decemberists, Colin Munroe, N.E.R.D., Girl Talk, and WaleAs if it weren't enough to have energetic playboy Pharrell Williams rocking the mic, Yalies had to go and get a great DJ who knows how to work up an outdoor crowd, Girl Talk, and a seriously legit up-and-coming rapper, Wale. In this one respect, we must all admit, Yale does not suck.Harvard: Sara Bareilles and RatatatAlright so I guess this one kind of sucks.Brown: M.I.A., Lupe Fiasco, Girl Talk, and Vampire WeekendBrown never fails to please when providing students with entertainment. While  I'm sure M.I.A. tore it up at the event, I can't think of anything more stereotypically Princeton than listening to the uber-preppy, Ivy League-educated Vampire Weekend out on a green lawn while sipping on something cool and alcoholic. Oh wait though, they're too popular right now. Maybe Princeton '15 has something to look forward to.Columbia: Talib Kweli and Vampire WeekendAt least VW is permissible here since they're Columbia alums. But still.Vanderbilt: T.I., Flaming Lips, N.E.R.D., Q-Tip, Okkervil River, Santigold, and nine othersThe only thing I've got to say is that this lineup puts even professional festivals to shame. Just what the hell does Vanderbilt think it is? An Ivy?Ugh, USG, how about we donate this year's Lawnparties? Spare the $70,000 and everyone's respect for Princeton. Sure, I understand it's hard to get something groundbreaking on such a tight budget, but I'm not asking for Lil' Wayne, just an act that's released a few hits in the last two years. So, at least, let's all pray that the eating clubs start pooling their Lawnparties funds together so students at least get one big respectable act. Cloister, Colonial, I'm looking at you; Springsteen and AC/DC cover bands are embarrassing.(image source: virginmedia.com)
